Q&A

What do I need before I book my lessons?

You need to be 17 or over and have a provisional licence. You should also be able to read a car registration plate from a distance of 20 metres (with glasses or contact lenses, if necessary).

Should I do my theory before I start lessons?

No, it’s not necessary but you must have passed it before you book a practical test. You don’t need to have read any theory before you start your lessons but it would help you to learn if you have a better understanding of the rules of the road.

How many lessons will I take to pass my test?

This varies wildly from student to student. Some pass quicker then others depending on many factors such as age, how long you spend as a passenger in a car and if you can practice using a friend or family member’s car. According to government statistics the average learner will need 45 hours tuition with an instructor and 20 hours practice in their own or family member’s vehicle.

Will other pupils be in a car with me?

No, all of your tuition is carried out on 1 to 1 basis.

How often should I have my lessons?

How often you have your lessons is entirely up to you. The instructor recommends at least 1 session of 2 hours per week (subject to availability).

I have had lessons with a previous instructor, do I need to start my learning again?

f you have had previous instructor, your first lesson with me will start as an assessment lesson to give me an idea of which stage of learning you are at. If you have had lessons recently you may be able to move forward with your learning quite quickly. If your last lesson was some time ago, you have to refresh your knowledge from your previous tuition.
